Split sunset and wine tasting

Before Sunset & Wine tasting

  • Pleasant walk up to ”the green lungs of Split” – Marjan park forest
  • A panoramic view to the city of Split from Marjan at dusk
  • Stroll through scenic Veli Varoš – former fishermen’s and farmers’ borough
  • Getting to know Split’s most popular beach and its stories
  • Visit to a konoba (tavern) for Dalmatian wine and food tasting
  • Finding out about local history/life/wines/and more…

There is nothing quite as beautiful as going to Marjan towards the remains of the day and breathing in the beauty of the sunset over Split from the „First viewpoint“. Meet your guide in front of St. Francis church and begin your relaxing sunset story.

Continue to Marjan hill – park of nature, commonly called the city lungs. Far and above the crowds, the traffic, we will reach the First viewpoint offering a stunning view to the city and the surrounding islands while the sun is setting behind us as the shadow of the dusk starts slowly making its way down like a giant transparent cape onto the 1700-year-old city announcing another great evening.

Then we will walk down to Veli Varoš („Big Varoš“, Varoš is a local term for borough). It is the second oldest neighborhood in Split (right after the Palace) whose harmonious stone houses and alleys, some of which were built hundreds of years ago will captivate you. This picturesque area was once home to ancient Split’s peasants and fishermen while today it has to a degree become a tourist neighborhood with Dalmatian konobas (taverns) and apartments but at the same time keeping its traditional charm since local people live there like they used to.

After Varoš, we will take a relaxing walk to another old part of Split  – Bačvice („small barrels“), well-known for its sandy beach and picigin, famous local game where five players form a circle in shallow water passing to each other small rubber ball with a lot of running and diving to “keep the ball dry”. It is the oldest and most popular city beach with over one hundred years of history and inseparable segment of the hard-to-tame spirit of Split and its social life – just imagine Rio without Copacabana.

Our steps will next take us to Matoni konoba to taste and enjoy Dalmatian wines as well as to learn a few things about them. Therefore be prepared to let your palates be dazzled by a delicious rhapsody of Dalmatian bites and supreme wines.
As there is a wine shop you’ll also have the opportunity to buy wines and sweet specialties made according to old recipes.
To end your day, we definitely recommend a pleasant walk along the sea as a perfect finishing touch to this program.
